Summary: Ancient ruins are a gamble, honestly. Either you come out with the greatest archeological discovery of the year, or you don't come out at all. And in this case, you SHOULDN'T come out. Lest you doom the rest of the human race...
History: Deep within what remains of the Mayan civilization, those who still remain kill any who dare enter their home and/or try to get out. But it isn't totally out of malice. It's out of fear. For deep within these jungles is a species of blood-sucking vine that can move, infect, strategize, and utterly wreck anyone who dares touch it. For if the Mayans were to forgo their vigilance, the vines could spread and infect the world.
Notable Kills: Once it enters any orrofice in your body...it's all over. You're in for a horrible demise.
Final Fate: After so much chaos involving the vines and the desperate Mayans, only one girl manages to make it out of the ruins and away from the monstrous flora. There are those who would still come to these lands, though. Pray for them. Pray that they never get out...
Powers/Abilities: The vines are ridiculously intelligent, capable of mimicking noises, voices, and even smells perfectly to lure prey. They also spread rapidly when inside a body, sucking it dry of flesh and blood at a rapid pace. And all it takes for infection is a touch.
Weakness: Anything conventional.
Scariness Factor: 4.5-VINES. THAT CHASE. AND LURE. AND EAT YOU FROM THE INSIDE-OUT! Do not even try to blow this premise off. The end results are painful, gory, and the last thing you'd like to see in nature.
Trivia: -Originally, the ending was going to be a lot more faithful to the book it was based on, with the vines hitching a ride to human civilization. But the director felt that the film was depressing enough.
-Due to the weeds' resemblance to marijuana leaves, this film has often been interpreted as a cautionary tale to getting addicted to pot. Sure, it isn't violent, but it's no good for the body.
